Long Compton & District Garden Club

Dear Friend,

How wonderful to see so many of you at the meeting last Wednesday.  It was good to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too!

As you will know, if you picked up our speaker schedule at the AGM, our next meeting will be on Wednesday 27th March.  Our speaker for the evening will be Timothy Walker. Timothy read Botany at Oxford and following graduation has continued to both study and work in his chosen field. Having trained at Askham Bryan, Windsor and Kew Timothy went on to become Director at Oxford Botanic Garden, he is now College Lecturer in Plant Sciences (botany) at Somerville College Oxford. We are incredibly lucky to have Timothy joining us and I thought a little advance reminder was a good idea for what promises to be a very interesting and informative talk on 'The Healing Power of Plants'.

On an entirely different note we now have a Facebook page!  You should be able to find us by searching for Long Compton & District Garden Club or by following this link;  https://www.facebook.com/groups/lcdgardenclub We aim to keep the club's page updated with all the information relevant to meetings and trips.  Don't worry if you're not a Facebook user we will still be sending updates via email too.

I'm sure that many of you are signed up for the newsletter from Whichford Pottery but for those that aren't I have included this link https://www.whichfordpottery.com/visit/events It looks like they have some excellent events on throughout the summer so might be worth a look.

Fingers crossed for some good gardening weather over the next few weeks and hopefully see you on the 27th!

Best wishes,

Julie Reardon

Dear Friends,
If you missed Sue Bannister’s plant sale last weekend, she will be selling plants at our Spring Show this coming weekend at Sibford Village Hall  (OX15 5RN) on Saturday 18th May.
If there is something you are looking for or if you would like help with choosing the right plant, please contact Sue on 01295 788088 or sebannister@gmail.com.  Sue is also happy to sell direct from her garden by prior arrangement and that is always a treat as you get to see the plants growing in situ.
You don’t have to be a Horti member to take advantage of this.
Pease do pass on this email to your gardening friends.
All proceeds go to support our gardening club and the NGS
Very best wishes,

3.  8 June. MOTH DISCOVERY!  8.00am at The Long House, Sibford Ferris. Family event. Come and see who is up and about while we are all slumbering in our beds. Prepare to be amazed!
4.  Wednesday 12 June. Visit to West View House and Hardwick Hill Garden. Please see the attachment. In an odd turn of events, our invitation to view Priors Marston Manor has been withdrawn. Have a look and see what resourceful Veronique has managed to arrange at short notice instead. I think the substitution might well be better than the original.
Best wishes to you all
